    The establishment, founded in 2010 and based in Sub-Saharan Africa, is a leading microfinance institution (MFI) in Africa today. Its range of services (savings, MSME loans, and payments) attract a clientele of small business owners and low-income families. Currently, the institution is now entering a new period centered on profitability and growth. Both its regional and international shareholders set ambitious yet realistic objectives for the institution.

     

    Seeking a high calibre candidate who has the drive and passion to take on the Managing Director role at this microfinance bank.

     

    Responsibilities

     

     Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Overall Management and Governance
    • Member of the Board of Directors;
    • Execute the policy decisions of the Board;
    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the institution by providing quality leadership and guidance to all functions of the bank;
    • Initiate cross-functional cooperation and communication;
    • Achieve business plan targets;
    • Set performance contracts and monitor performance per procedures for the senior management team;
    • Implement the performance management system for the senior management team.
    1. Control and Risk Management
    • Uphold high standards of risk management at all levels and ensure effective supervisory control and management review;
    • Create awareness of financial control measures and consider the financial obligations of all business decisions;
    • Ensure sound financial recording/reporting and optimal management of business and legal risk;
    • Ensure effective implementation of all internal audit recommendations;
    • Organize and act as chair of relevant management committees;
    • Oversee the application of the institution’s policies, norms and procedures.
    1. Development of Management Team and Staff
    • Build a strong and effective senior management team;
    • Create and engender a team spirit among the institution’s staff in order to improve the quality of its services and improve its efficiency and effectiveness;
    • Develop and implement a succession plan.
    1. Leadership and Relationship Management
    • Build  reputation as an institution committed to excellent client service, both internally and externally;
    • Maintain solid relations with shareholders and external parties, including donors, the Central African Central Bank, the Government of Cameroon and other business partners;
    • Facilitate exchange of experience with Ecobank’s other microfinance operations.
    1. Strategic and Financial Planning
    • Develop annual and longer term plans and budgets, incorporating input from the different departments represented on the senior management team, for approval by the board of directors;
    • Oversee the implementation of budget and strategic plans
    • Approve bank expenses within the budget parameters;
    • Fulfill all other functions and duties as required by the  Board.

                           6.   General Management

    • Lead the senior management team;
    • Appoint staff outside the senior management team;
    • Supervise staff and ensure that well motivated;
    • Mentor and coach staff;
    • Delegate effectively and encourage feedback and review of all operational areas;
    • Report any internal control deficiency to the board and the auditors;
    • Control the institution’s expenses and investments.

    Qualifications

    Core Competencies Required:

    • Track record of managing a financial institution in a competitive environment;
    • 15 years of banking and/or retail financial services experience;
      • Excellent negotiation, marketing and presentation skills;
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to present financial information effectively to both specialists and non-specialists.  Ability to mobilize and empower staff to achieve results.
    • Knowledge of micro, small and medium enterprise market segments in Cameroon or similar countries;
    • Fluency in French and English.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate degree in business, accounting, finance or related area of study and minimum of ten years of senior management experience, preferably in a bank or retail financial institution.
    • OR Graduate degree in business, accounting, finance or related area of study and minimum of seven years of senior commercial management experience, preferably in a bank or retail financial institution.
    • Experience in commercial strategic planning, budgeting, control, financial analysis, and risk management.

    Attributes Desired:

    • Fluency in local languages;
    • Is honest, ethical, hardworking, friendly, focused;
    • High standards in regards to quality of work;
    • Able to work independently and as a team member;
    • Attention to detail;
    • Experience in banking or microfinance in Africa;
    • Commitment to the social mission of microfinance.
