    About the Smart Campaign:


    The Smart Campaign works globally to create an environment in which financial services are delivered safely and responsibly to low-income clients. As the world’s first financial consumer protection standard, the Campaign maintains a rigorous certification program, elevates the client voice, and convenes partners to effect change at the national level. Nearly 100 financial institutions, collectively serving more than 41 million people, have been certified for adhering to the Campaign’s industry-accepted consumer protection standards.



    Position Summary 


    Accion’s Center for Financial Inclusion seeks a new team member with work experience in operational support and project management in international development.


    This role will support the continued expansion of the Smart Campaign, a research and advocacy initiative that aims to empower customers and promote client protection in financial inclusion.  In particular, the Specialist will provide a range of administrative, communications, web research, and project operations support in English and French. The Specialist will work with the Smart Campaign’s team and CFI’s Communications and operations team members to ensure the successful implementation of the Smart Campaign’s strategy.


    Key Areas of Responsibility



    • Contribute to due diligence research and supports the implementation on the ground – particularly in Uganda, Benin, Rwanda, Nigeria, and Ghana.
    • Provide technical support to partners and key stakeholders and serve a key first reference for inquiries, particularly for grants and key materials management; especially Francophone stakeholders.
    • Support relationship building, awareness raising, advocacy, and launching initiatives related to client voice activities, including but not limited to radio campaigns, research, and client awareness campaigns.
    • Support the development of Smart Campaign expansion strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Francophone.



    • Provide ongoing support for the execution of the Campaign’s client protection research and learning agenda in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
    • Support the Campaign by writing and editing communications and marketing collateral related to our work and the financial inclusion sector in Africa and Middle East & North Africa region (i.e., blogs, e-newsletters, policy memos).
    • Ensure that key resources are translated for Francophone participants; Where applicable, translate short communications materials and video text into French and conduct quality checks on materials already-translated.
    • Manage the Francophone community of practice.
    • Communicate with Anglophone and Francophone financial inclusion stakeholders interested in working with the Campaign.
    • Keep the Campaign up to date on relevant news articles published in French through Google Alerts.
    • Attend events to present the Campaign’s work and promote consumer protection, client centricity, and responsible finance.



    • Assist campaign as required in any of the following areas: Standards setting research; Certification and capacity building; Communications and advocacy; Regulator support; Client workstreams; Market level activities; Operational support.
    • Support the staff of the Smart Campaign, specifically the Africa team, by supporting the organization of convenings and contracting of consultants.
    • Assist with preparation of reports detailing Campaign activities and milestones for donors, management, & advisory board.
    • Assist the Campaign in tracking and measuring the impact of its activities.



    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Recent college graduate with a degree in international development, communications, or related field.
    • Fluency in written and spoken French is required.
    • 2+ years of professional work experience required; international experience preferred.
    • Excellent communication (writing and speaking) skills are important. Must be able to express thoughts and opinions clearly and concisely.
    • Editing and copywriting experience, particularly with policy and/or marketing materials; strong attention to detail.
    • Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel is important. 
    • Past project management experience preferred
    • Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and multi-task across multiple projects and priorities.
    • Well-organized.
    • Excellent and rapid web researcher.
    • Good information synthesizer
    • Ability to work as a team member as well as independently.
