    We seek a Manager, Media & Public Relations with 8 - 10 years of full-time professional work experience to drive earned media as part of our communications strategy. This role works across internal teams and external partners to identify and leverage media and engagement opportunities, elevating visibility of our work—and ultimately supporting Accion’s mission of building a financially inclusive world.


    Position Summary:


    The ideal candidate has substantial and progressive, first-hand experience working directly with top-tier tech and financial outlets, as well as key media in the countries where we work; an understanding of today’s digital media landscape; and a passion for social good. She or he must be well-organized, able to multi-task and prioritize, demonstrate creativity, and possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. The ideal candidate brings an awareness of topics relevant to our work, such as fintech, financial services, financial inclusion, SDGs/development, and impact investing.


    This role is based in Washington DC with occasional international travel and reports to Accion’s Senior Director of Engagement.


    Media activities (75%)


    • Facilitate rollout of Accion’s announcements: Manage the rollouts of investment announcements, partnerships, and knowledge product releases. Maintain announcement pipeline. Liaise with internal teams and external partners.
    • Draft media materials: Draft and coordinate review of press releases, media pitches, and other media materials.
    • Manage media strategy development, media engagement, and work directly with reporters: Identify relevant reporters for Accion announcements and opportunities. Manage and maintain records of Accion’s media engagement activities. Develop and maintain relationships with relevant reporters, including top-tier global outlets and key press in the countries where Accion works.
    • Monitor media coverage of Accion and its affiliated programs: Monitor daily alerts and flag opportunities in real time. Oversee compilation of weekly reports summarizing media coverage of Accion and our industry. Compile/distribute topic-specific monitoring reports as needed.
    • Prepare staff for media interviews: Research opportunities, coordinate interviews, prepare briefing notes for spokespeople in advance of media interviews. Support media trainings.
    • Identify and leverage media opportunities. Accion’s media presence is substantial and growing among a global audience and in-market regional media in the regions in which we work – Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. Act strategically and opportunistically to help us identify and leverage new opportunities.


    Additional partner/industry engagement support (20%)


    • Prepare spokespeople for speaking opportunities at major industry events.
    • Manage event partnerships – liaise with event contacts, develop and coordinate review of agreements, and monitor activities to ensure follow-through across the communications team.
    • Take initiative with Accion’s efforts to engage public, industry, and partner audiences as needed.

    Management and administrative activities (5%)

    • Manage media and engagement-related contracts and subscriptions; liaise with vendors.
    • Track KPIs for growing Accion’s reach and engagement.
    • Be willing to step in where needed.




    • Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred
    • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with reporters and executing media relations activities, including conducting research, building media lists, drafting materials, pitching, monitoring for coverage.
    • Digital and social media acumen and an understanding of today’s digitally-driven media landscape.
    • Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and multi-task across multiple projects and priorities.
    • Awareness of topics related to financial inclusion, fintech, impact investing and related fields.
    • Experience working with in-market media in the primary regions in which Accion works – Latin America, southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa – a plus.
    • Generally 8-10 years of full-time professional work experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
    • Strong writing and editing skills.
    • Agency experience a plus.
    • Spanish fluency strongly preferred
