    Accion Venture Lab:


    Accion Venture Lab is the world’s leading seed-stage investor in fintech for the underserved. Venture Lab invests capital in and provides support to innovative fintech startups that increase access to, improve the quality of, or reduce the cost of financial services for the underserved at scale. Since launching in 2012, Venture Lab has deployed over US$20 million across more than 40 startups that work in over 30 countries worldwide. Venture Lab has now raised new capital to scale our work from LPs who include global financial services companies, foundations, and DFIs.


    The Role:


    Venture Lab is currently recruiting an Investment Associate to be based in Southeast Asia (location preference is Manila) and will report to Venture Lab’s Director of Asia Investments. S/he will support all aspects of Venture Lab, including deal sourcing, analysis/diligence, transaction closing/process management, post-investment support to investee companies, and knowledge and industry building. The role will be highly entrepreneurial, spanning emerging market venture investing, consulting/management, and entrepreneurship, with a focus on cutting edge innovation in financial inclusion. 


    Candidates with experience living and working in Southeast Asia, working with social enterprises, venture capital investing, or financial inclusion and technology businesses are preferred.



    1. Portfolio Management & Investment Support


    • Develop a strong pipeline of investment opportunities as well as build a referral network within the entrepreneurial and venture capital eco-system for sourcing deals with a focus on the Philippines, Indonesia, and other Asian countries.
    • Conduct thorough due diligence, market research, and financial analysis on prospective investees, developing and presenting deal screening materials with in-depth country and regional contexts.
    • Provide support in leading the investment process, including structuring, negotiation, documentation, and execution.
    • Develop knowledge and thought leadership on investment themes and trends across Southeast Asian countries in coordination with Accion Venture Lab’s broader Asia strategy.
    • Coordinate with investee companies to track, monitor, and analyze performance, challenges and growth opportunities, and share learnings back with the team. Provide management support to investee enterprises, including (as applicable) finance and operating strategy, business development and lead generation, introductions/connections, fundraising support, and seeking opportunities to leverage Accion resources and expertise to benefit the investee.


     2.  Business Development and Marketing

    • Build and manage relationships with global and local investors, entrepreneurs, service providers, and Accion teams for deal sourcing, information/idea exchange, deal execution/co-investment, post-investment support, entrepreneurial ecosystem building, and other objectives.
    • Support Venture Lab’s external positioning and drive industry recognition, including the development of marketing collateral, newsletter updates, blogs, tweets, etc.
    • Represent Venture Lab publicly at conferences, events, and working groups as needed and share learnings back with the team.


    3.  Knowledge Building and General Administration


    • Proactively develop knowledge resources and thought leadership, including preparation of documents on investment status and lessons for Investors, Accion, and other Lab stakeholders.
    • Perform market deep dives to update the team and influence investment theses.
    • Support other Venture Lab initiatives as needed.


    • Passion for entrepreneurship and market-based solutions to poverty.
    • Strong research and analysis skills, including financial analytics.
    • Outstanding relationship management skills and the ability to earn the respect of colleagues, investors, and enterprises.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate data and insights in a structured fashion.
    • Advanced computer/web skills including Word/Excel/Powerpoint
    • Bachelor’s degree with around 3-7 years work experience, and at least 3 years of relevant experience across management consulting, venture capital, private equity, investment banking, and/or technology.

    • Experience working in or with startups or growth-stage enterprises in Southeast Asia.
    • Domain expertise in financial services and/or financial inclusion, particularly financial technology in market.
    • Experience performing in-depth market research with primary and secondary sources.
    • Language skills beyond English (working knowledge of Indonesian preferred).
