    We seek an Executive Communications Strategist to work across the communications team, with Accion’s diverse set of staff located around the world, and with external partners to raise Accion’s profile in the fields of impact investing, financial inclusion, and fintech with communications support for our senior leadership.  


    The ideal candidate brings 5-7 years of full-time professional experience, including several years of experience working in communications or media. She or he is eager to play a key role in elevating the public profile of a global organization focused on startups, financial technology, and/or international development.


    The role is based in Washington, DC with occasional travel and reports to the Chief Communications Officer and works closely with our leadership team.


    Overall, the Executive Communications Specialist is Accion’s point person for consistent, high-quality, engaging messaging from our leadership team. Delivering this means ensuring reviews and content feedback happen in a timely manner and that materials are delivered with a minimum of feedback and review from relevant teams. Specific outputs are:


    Messaging Support (25%)

    • Draft organizational messaging, coordinate reviews, and take a leading role in ensuring that organization-wide, region-specific, topic-specific talking points are kept up to date and shared as appropriate
    • Help Accion staff connect our work with human impact and articulate the social value of our work; be a resource to other teams to assist with ‘bigger picture’ framing
    • Serve as a resource for Accion staff on messaging and tone for external facing content.
    • Ensure that canonical messaging documents are kept current with the organization’s partner lists, impact metrics, etc.
    • Work across teams and closely with other members of the communications team to prepare Accion leadership for external speaking opportunities

    Thought leadership content (35%)

    • Author talking points, speeches, thought leadership articles for external submission, and other messaging materials
    • Ensure senior leadership has the required logistical details needed when preparing for a speaking engagement. Coordinate across the communications team and others to deliver remarks on time and in format appropriate for use
    • Draft thought leadership articles for external submission, blogs, letters to the editor, briefings and other collateral to communicate C-suite perspectives to outside audiences.

    Short-form digital content (25%)

    • Ensure the LinkedIn presence of Accion’s leadership follows current good practice, with timely short-form and longer-form content updates

    Internal Communications (15%)

    • Coordinate the creation and review of messages from Accion leadership to key constituencies including the board and staff of Accion, typically short form notes around recent activities and achievements from across the organization. Work closely with other members of the communications team to coordinate distribution.


    • A Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, international development or finance
    • A minimum of 5 years of professional writing experience for senior staff or in a media setting, ideally in a technology or financial services organization
    • Excellent writing, researching, editing and proofreading skills
    • Familiarity with, and/or the ability to quickly develop a solid understanding of, financial, public-policy and international-development issues, and to communicate them in an effective manner
    • The ability to quickly develop well-written, clear and compelling copy for verbal, print and digital channels
    • Flexibility with priorities and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
    • The ability to develop effective relationships across the enterprise and build consensus with others
    • Creativity, accountability, discipline, integrity and a collaborative approac
