COVID 19 response- content creation to help small businesses in times of crisis.


Program Overview and Strategic Role

Accion Global Advisory Solutions is currently searching for a Consultant that will support the creation of specific and relevant digital content designed to help small business in times of crisis. The anticipated level of effort is of 60 days total over the course of 6 months. Local travel may be required. All work with be undertaken in accordance with local public health recommendations and mandates.


Accion has been working with micro- and small business owners in India for more than 10 years and in Latin America for almost 20 years; our technical experts have a deep familiarity with the unique needs of low-income entrepreneurs. S&P Global Foundation and Accion partnership will help microentrepreneurs by developing engaging content that helps low-income entrepreneurs build the digital capabilities they need to become active participants in the rapidly changing economic environment.


Consultant Role, Key Activities & Deliverables


The digital content will focus on small and micro entrepreneurs in developing countries with low levels of education and low digital literacy skills, but who have access to a smart phone or other internet-enabled devices. The new tools will leverage visual and audio content, engaging methods such as gamification or trivia, and more. Content will initially be offered in English, Spanish, and Hindi; all will have a culturally agnostic design to allow rapid translation and adjustments to additional countries and languages. We plan to leverage our existing partnerships with financial service providers in countries like Colombia, Ecuador, India, Kenya, and Nigeria to bring this content to users rapidly and effectively.  


This project will be conducted in phases, to ensure that tools are developed and distributed as rapidly as possible. A first phase of development will focus on the most urgent content and will be delivered within the first two months of the project; each subsequent phase will create tools and materials that build on previous learnings and go more in depth in each subject.  


The team envisions developing content in several key areas such as: 

  1. Quick reaction to a crisis
  2. Digital capabilities
  3. Business Capacities
  4. Resilience and Motivation
  5. Lessons learned

The Consultant will be working closely with the Global Advisory Solutions (GLAS) in the project selected countries, if required, to support the successful execution of all related activities. The time to complete all deliverables is estimated to take 60 days. Activities may include, but are not limited to the following:   

  1. Support project in the definition of themes to be included and developed in the above-mentioned key areas.


In total, between 15 and 20 defined themes to create content. 

  1. Support project in the definition of instructional strategies for content development for each theme. These will cover definition and development of:
  • Research and definition of content sources to ensure high quality content.
  • Learning objectives, skills, knowledge and attitudes to be enhanced.
  • Content tone aligned with UX design.
  • Content structure for all pieces.
  • Story boards.
  • Scripts.


Between 15 and 20 storyboards with scripts.

  1. Support overall project by partaking in following activities:
  • Analysis and research to define the requirements and specifications
  • Designing and prototyping a solution
  • Development and production
  • Quality Control, testing, evaluation and more fine-tuning
  • Work jointly with website and content developer vendors.
  • Overall participation in the designing of the website that will host the developed content.


Between 15 and 20 final digital content pieces.


Timeline and Project Work Plan

The Consultant will work with the GLAS Team to develop a mutually acceptable and more detailed project timeline and work plan.




Experience Required

  • Send professional portfolio to
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in designing and developing instructional design interventions for low-income populations with low levels of literacy, this includes:
    • Select and use a variety of techniques to define and sequence the instructional content and strategies.
    • Develop instructional materials.
    • Design instruction that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learners and groups of learners.
    • Evaluate and assess instruction and its impact.
  • Experience designing content for video and audio tools.
  • Design experience within digital services in emerging markets would be a plus
  • Experience with Human Center Design methodologies a plus.
  • Experience working with learning digital platforms or Learning Management Systems -LMS- would be a plus. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • English and Hindi fluency required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills with a positive, can-do attitude. 
  • Ability to use different styles to influence individuals and groups and cause impact. 
  • Exceptional written, communication and presentation skills for a variety of audiences; comfort moving seamlessly between executive teams and the field. 
  • Excellent project and people skills, especially in multi-cultural environments. 
  • Demonstrated interest in our mission and in working globally. 
  • Willingness to embody our values of excellence, respect and passion for social change.  

Travel requirements:

  • Some travel requirement within India for content development. All work with be undertaken in accordance with local public health recommendations and mandates.
