Position Summary 

Due to the global nature of this position, the Director, Risk and Credit Analytics could be based in one of the following emerging markets:  Latin America, Africa or Southeast Asia.  The Director, Risk and Credit Analytics will develop and disseminate world-class risk management tools, such as credit scoring and analytics capabilities, to be implemented by FSPs and provide guidance and support with respect to the best risk management practices. S/he will be an integral part of Accion’s Global Advisory Solutions team and responsible for providing technical assistance to FSPs in the following areas:

  • Efficiency & productivity: design and implement performance monitoring tools, build capacity in portfolio quality analysis to drive growth and design and implement scorecards for automation of key credit processes
  • Stability & growth: credit product design and policies (risk acceptance criteria) and help institutions access and improve their overall risk management frameworks
  • Business transition: risk impact due to changes in key business processes
  • Technology integration: validating third-party risk and scoring tools, upgrading and adjusting risk assessment tools for new technology platforms and helping FSPs understand risk associated with deploying and adopting new technology

 

The Director, Risk and Credit Analytics will play an important role in engaging with senior levels at financial institutions and donors; will have global responsibilities,very good knowledge of the current and emerging trends in Digital Lending, innovative technologies & solutions, major eco-system participants etc. Among this, the Director should have strong understanding of and / or experience in working with alternate data-based risks models.

Responsibilities

Working as part of a global, cross-functional team, the Risk and Credit Analytics Director will represent Accion as an advisor to our clients, build client relationships and support a variety of risk and credit analytics activities and strategies for our clients.

 

For the FSPs with whom we establish TA agreements, the Risk and Credit Analytics Director will provide the following support:

  • Face to face interaction with senior management along the entire relationship cycle, from client prospecting to execution and follow up.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of statistically developed tools such as credit scores, developed internally or by third parties, to support the decision-making processes in the FSPs in order to optimize their client origination process, account renewals, client retention and recovery strategies.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of reporting tools that support data insights/business analytics for FSPs through the credit cycle; origination, account maintenance and recoveries/collections (portfolio monitoring and analysis tools).
  • Advise and support FSPs on the periodic evaluation of their portfolio indicators, providing input to the Senior Management regarding identified risks and proposing risk mitigation tools and action plans.
  • Work with FSPs and other Global Advisory Solutions team members in the optimization of credit policies through the use of analytics (relationship, exposure, exceptions, etc.) and product development tools.
  • In close collaboration with GLAS management, provide strategic insight/advice to clients and partners at an institutional level by:
    • Making recommendations that have an institution level impact in collaboration with all services areas that Global Advisory Solutions teams offer and external stakeholders
    • Participating in and contributing to solving project related issues
    • Ensuring performance and deliverables/results are achieved in larger strategic projects by working in collaboration with all service areas within Global Advisory Solutions teams
  • Collaborate with and at times lead teams in Global Advisory Solutions to design and implement both traditional lending products and new and innovate digital lending products.
  • Oversee product design (defining/accessing risk acceptance criteria), accessing appropriateness of technology solutions and channels being considered, understanding data and data analytics from client segmentation and product development processes. 
  • Provide advisory support to FSPs in reviewing, identifying and estimating risk levels and gaps in existing processes; make recommendations as needed. 
  • Provide advisory support to the FSPs in the identification of Operational and Market related risks, recommending the adequate documentation and control tools wherever applicable.
  • Review and advise in the assessment of technological alternatives to continuously improve the methodologies used for development and implementation of Risk Management tools for FSPs.
  • Support FSPs in objectively accessing vendors/providers of risk management tools; make recommendations as needed
  • Supervise a Risk Specialist who is responsible for data structuring and processing
  • Collaborate and contribute to strategic projects within Global Advisory Solutions from a risk management and data analytics perspective

 

As member of the team of Global advisory solutions the Risk and Credit Analytics Director will have the following functions:

 

  • Supporting business development efforts including the creation and presentation of project proposals to clients and/or donors
  • Participating with other members of the Global Advisory Solutions and Investments teams in the evaluation of potential investment and/or technical assistance partners
  • Effectively representing and communicate the value of the team’s risk and credit analytics service offering, and how it can be integrated into Accion’s advisory solutions for client FSPs
  • Contributing to the overall strategy and operations of Global Advisory Solutions by providing insights on trends, areas for growth and market positioning in the area of risk and credit analytics
  • Building Accion’s capacity by documenting and sharing project results and disseminating useful information and tools through a variety of knowledge exchange mediums such as brown bags, team meetings/debriefs, workshops, blogging, webinars, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum of BS/BA in Economics, Industrial Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or Business. MBA preferred.

 

Experience Required

  • Experience of 12+ years in Individual lending or retail operations in a regulated financial institution and/or implementing credit scores/credit models with financial institutions
  • Background in financial analysis with statistics or programming is ideal.

 

Professional skills:

  • Proven expertise in Statistical Modeling, Credit Risk Modeling/Analysis, Data Mining, and Finance.
  • Knowledge of Portfolio Risk/Management within financial business. Clear understanding of portfolio risks related to vintage and delinquency trends.
  • Knowledge of market and operational risks.
  • Excellent cost management and project management skills.
  • Advanced written communication skills.
  • Background in financial analyses with statistics or programming.
  • Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory framework.
  • Credit/Asset product development and implementation (traditional credit products and digital lending products).
  • English spoken and written needed.

 

Personal skills:

  • Ability to lead projects, motivate staff, and coordinate with multiple teams from conception to delivery.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence leadership/decision makers within the organization.
  • Excellent relationship management with good presentation and commercial skills.
