Accion Global Advisory Solutions (GLAS) is currently seeking a Consultant, Gender Specialist to be responsible of co- leading the definition of a women-focused program that aims to empower low-income women and women microentrepreneurs in Latin America, Nigeria, and India, who have been severally hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The project looks to understand the challenges, needs and ambitions women have as well as mapping key organizations already working on women related issues through primary and secondary research, help to establish partnerships, support the definition of the concept and structure of the program components, support the implement of the program components in different countries, and help to promote and disseminate the program with partners and end users.


The components of the program include:

  • Creation of e-learning modules exclusively for women to be offered through Accion´s EdTech platform.
  • Implementation of bootcamps lead by recognized local women and experts to share their knowledge in various topics.
  • Implementation of a mentorship program that connects participants with volunteers who have the knowledge and expertise to guide and support them.

Working closely with the Vice President of Customer Strategy, the Gender Specialist Consultant will play a lead role in this ambitious project, in terms of guiding the team to expand its understanding on women issues and supporting key activities in the project: structuring and conducting qualitative research, turning the findings into meaningful insights that will inform the design of the program, participating in the program concept definition bringing the women lens, supporting the development of the program.


Location is flexible, Latin-America or US based preferred.

Position responsibilities

The Consultant, Gender Specialist will work closely with the VP of Customer Strategy and the Customer Engagement team in Latin America and India. The responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Help expanding the team´s overall understanding of the problem by sharing and transmitting previous knowledge and insights on the challenges low-income women face and their needs and aspirations they have on a personal, financial and business level.
  • Support the user research of the project by defining the objectives, hypothesis, research tools and processing results with the rest of the team.
  • Lead the program concept definition with support from the research lead: define the scope, structure and topics of the program´s component: development of e-learning modules, and implementation of bootcamps and the mentorship program.
  • Support the definition of the learning objectives of the digital content to be created and give overall feedback along the content creation process.
  • Work closely with the project team to support the implementation of the program.

The Consultant, Gender Specialist will commit to 30 days over a period of 5 months, starting in August/September 2021.


Position qualifications

  • 5 to 8 years of diverse and progressive experience in financial inclusion, women and economic empowerment, and digital financial services.
  • Relevant experience working on women focus project in different countries in various regions.
  • Knowledge of the women development ecosystem and capacity to propose and establish valuable partnerships for the program.
  • Experience working with the low-income segment of the pyramid, women preferred.
  • Demonstrates creativity and takes initiative in problem solving.
  • Flexibility and openness to face changes and unforeseen events.
  • Has well-developed leadership qualities.
  • English fluency, Spanish fluency a plus.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to use different styles to influence individuals and groups and cause impact.
  • Excellent project and people skills, especially in multi-cultural environments.
  • Demonstrated interest in our mission and in working globally.
  • Willingness to embody our values of excellence, respect and passion for social change.
