The Senior Manager, Individual Philanthropy will be responsible for renewing and expanding the pool of individual donors and prospects with a focus on the major giving segments. This person will manage a portfolio of active donors and build prospect pipeline through strategic outreach and networking activity and is also responsible for refining our major giving society and planned giving program. The position will work closely with all members of the Individual Giving and Operations team and will contribute to the overall growth of Accion’s individual giving program, supporting the department’s overall goals. This position will report into the Vice President (VP) of Individual Philanthropy.

Accion’s Resource Development department has a solid track record of creative partnerships, strategic fundraising, and proven results. We work across a broad base of corporate and private foundation partners including Mastercard, Credit Suisse, FMO, Bill and Melinda Gates, MetLife, and Citi Foundations. In addition, we work with individual impact investors, philanthropic donors, and the public sector to carry out our important and increasingly urgent mission. Building on the existing strong base of supporters and partners, we aim to further expand the team and amplify our strategic partnership priorities and major gifts program.

Position responsibilities

In collaboration with the Vice President this position will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy to increase the annual giving of mid-level and major donors, designing engagement strategies for prospective donors, building relationships with current donors and creating a robust leadership giving society for major donors. In addition, this position will:


  • In collaboration with the Individual Philanthropy team and Research team members, identify new major donor segments, lead new major individual donor prospecting, manage a portfolio of key donors, and expand the Planned Giving program (Recife Society).
  • Oversee and execute outreach to new prospects with a focus on major individual gifts, family foundations/offices and Donor Advised Funds.
  • Manage portfolio of key mid-level and major donors, with a focus on increasing annual giving and multi-year pledges.
  • Contribute to Accion’s above-average donor retention rates through oversight of improved and expanded Giving Societies and donor engagement activities, with a focus on Planned Giving.
  • Work in coordination with program teams to identify and tailor key messaging, thought leadership work, impact metrics, and other content needed for a successful major gifts program.


Position qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in relevant area; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of fundraising experience, including major gifts; some leadership experience preferred.
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial thinker.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Proven track record within the major gifts program at a non-profit organization.
  • Considered an expert in the areas  of marketing and soliciting leadership gifts.
  • Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing social change.
  • Committed to and passionate about Accion’s mission and work globally.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or other fundraising software highly desirable.
  • Willingness to embody our values of excellence, respect, and passion for social change.
