Position Description:


The GLAS team is seeking a summer graduate intern with market research, business intelligence/data analyses, marketing techniques, and project management experience.  The individual will work closely with our subject matter experts in delivering best practices, strategies and key IP that support & enhance our offerings to partners around the world.  Our core expertise is advanced and supported by our capability areas which include: Strategic Use of Data, Product Development, Digital Lending, Customer Insights and Experimentation and Customer Capacity Building.  Key activities for this internship include the following:


1. Supporting advisory team’s knowledge building efforts.

  • Collating best practices, tactics and tools that have worked globally or regionally in domains such as Digital Engagement, Digital Payments, Strategic use of data and Digital Lending
  • Developing strategies to support the creation of new /enhancement of existing tools and assets that can accelerate and enhance Accion’s ongoing work with partners in the identified domains
  • Supporting the rollout of internal assessment tools

2. Working closely with marketing / industry engagement function to help create/update case studies including supporting business cases.

3. Contributing to development of landscape report of the actors to enable digital payments in 5-7 selected markets, including payment switches, digital identity providers, banks, MFIs.

  • Preparing a short list of institutions that we can interview regarding their appetite for digital payments and interest in launching open loop scheme-based payments.
  • Developing a survey tool (questionnaire) that will enable Accion team to ask key questions of the shortlisted institutions.
  • Developing a template of a landscape report of the actors.

The Intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the team’s knowledge tools, author case studies and work closely with industry experts passionate about working toward a more financially inclusive and interconnected world.


Qualifications and Requirements


  • Currently enrolled in an MBA or similar advanced degree program (including international development, international relations, economics or communications degrees)

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Generally 3+ years of professional experience
  • Experience with market research and/or customer intelligence gathering and analysis
  • Practical experience with developing business case/models to quantify value addition
  • Project management
  • Strong research and analysis skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate visually and verbally to a variety of audiences (e.g., external, executive, commercial, and philanthropic)
  • Willingness to embody Accion’s values of Excellence, Respect and Passion for Social Change

Skills Preferred

  • Use of business intelligence / data analysis tools such as PowerBI or advanced Excel including Macros and Pivot Tables preferred
  • Use of collaboration tools such as Miro
  • Practical experience with software product development including use of agile development methodologies

Period of internship: June – August, 2022, dates flexible.


Compensation: $20/hour
