Accion’s Resource Development department has a solid track record of creative partnerships, strategic fundraising, and proven results. We work across a broad base of corporate and private foundation partners including Mastercard, Credit Suisse, FMO, Bill and Melinda Gates, MetLife, and Citi Foundations. In addition, we work with individual impact investors, philanthropic donors, and the public sector to carry out our important and increasingly urgent mission. Building on the existing strong base of supporters and partners, we aim to further expand the team and amplify our strategic partnership priorities.  

Position Summary 

The Senior Manager of Public Sector Engagement and Fundraising will manage and participate in the public sector fundraising and opportunities creation while ensuring close collaboration and coordination with Accion’s global programs and research teams. This role reports to the Chief Development and Partnerships Officer (CDPO). This person will be responsible for identification, sourcing, and strategic partnership development and funding expansion with bilateral and multilateral institutions with a particular focus on USAID and a select group of prospects.

Working across the Resource Development department and specifically with the private sector partnerships team will be critically important to ensure most effective opportunity identification and creation as well as PPP development.

Position responsibilities:

Strategy and Leadership

• Working closely with the CDPO and the Private Sector Partnerships team lead the identification, targeting and opportunity creation with the public sector funders including bilaterals and multilaterals.
• With the increasing opportunities for Accion to partner with USAID, particular focus will be to build up our capabilities internally as well as help position us externally to effectively identify and secure funding.
• Working closely with CDPO, set fundraising and strategic partnerships goals for public sector, developing plans to optimally communicate our work and impact.  
• Organize and facilitate cross-departmental meetings to review USAID and public sector opportunities and facilitate Go/No-Go decision making. Ensure revenue and partnerships outcomes success and results.
• Help drive our outreach and engagement strategies for the public sector to be tailored by target audience and in alignment with Accion’s programmatic and thought leadership priorities.

Pipeline and Partnerships Development

• Oversee prospect pipeline development and segmentation of prospective funders, partners
• Engage program staff and senior management in efforts to build visibility
• Working with Research team members, prioritize prospects and support fundraising teams on outreach strategy
• Create linkages between public and private sector, identifying PPP opportunities
• As relevant and assigned, work on specific accounts and existing relationships across public and private sector and related to cross-sectoral and thematic priority areas including climate, health and education.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Working with Resource Development, develop a framework to facilitate and lead cross Accion meetings to review and strategize on public sector opportunities and strategic approach.
• Engage and collaborate with programs, regional staff, finance and communications teams to ensure effective partnership expansion strategic development and implementation of USAID/public sector funding growth.
• Ensure Accion fundraising efforts track to current trends of financial inclusion with key stakeholders and identify creative ways to develop opportunities for engagement outside of financial inclusion sector funding with priority public sector prospects.
• Foster collaboration and build consensus, developing key relationships to maximize fundraising and visibility opportunities
• Represent Resource Development department as appropriate and assigned

Position qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; relevant Master’s degree preferred.
• 7+ years progressive relevant experience with a minimum 3 years of experience managing strategic relationships, developing public sector partnerships, leading stakeholder and cross regional meetings
• Extensive knowledge of the financial inclusion landscape and funding trends.
• Proven track record of fundraising success and revenue growth in development sector and specifically with USAID
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and communicate clearly to other departments and levels of the organization regarding Resource Development objectives, complex projects and departmental strategies.
• Committed to and passionate about Accion’s mission and work globally.
• Working knowledge of Spanish preferred

Travel Requirements

This job may require travel up to 25% of time.
