Accion’s Resource Development department has a solid track record of creative partnerships, strategic fundraising and proven results. We work across a broad base of corporate and private foundation partners including Mastercard, Credit Suisse, FMO, Bill and Melinda Gates, MetLife, and Citi Foundations. In addition, we work with individual impact investors, philanthropic donors and the public sector to carry out our important and increasingly urgent mission. Building on the existing strong base of supporters and partners, we aim to further expand the team and amplify our strategic partnership priorities.


Position Summary

The Manager, Research and Prospect Segmentation reports to the Vice President of Fundraising Strategy, Planning and Insights and will support the growth strategy for the Resource Development Department. In this position, you will work as part of a collaborative team to identify and research innovative donor segments. You will be the go-to source for prospect research and market trends as well as insights that are informed by data analysis. A key part of this role will be to work with our Individual Philanthropy and Private Sector Partnerships teams to identify development sector trends, giving potential and to conduct competitive landscape analyses,

Position Responsibilities 

  • Oversee prospect research and segmentation for both individual giving and institutional partnerships, providing key input on strategic approach.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a research and prospect identification plan, supporting fundraising teams by identifying new prospects for individuals, foundations, corporations, and other institutional funders.
  • Working closely with the Vice President and Chief Development and Partnerships Officer (“CDPO”), help shape revenue growth and donor pipeline by supporting and providing insights into new donor segments and giving potential.
  • Produce executive-level, professional, confidential research reports, briefings, and event briefings on donor prospects for CDPO and CEO.
  • Analyze changes in funding support, model and track funding trends from top corporate and foundation prospects and identify top RFP and competitive opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • This position’s responsibilities will also include board-related research and strategies to further engage board members and their networks.


Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s degree in relevant area, preferred.      
  • Proven track record of research and data analytics skills.
  • Generally, 5-8 years of relevant experience, 5+ years’ experience in fundraising environment.
  • Prior experience with global NGO and/or private sector organization in social impact space.
  • Proficiency in research tools (such as LexisNexis, etc.) and in donor databases such as Salesforce (or similar software) is essential.
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and research needs while working with key internal. stakeholders across Resource Development and the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communications skills.
  • Experience with database management and various prospect research tools.
  • Ability to leverage research tools.
  • Fluency with data visualization tools such as Excel pivot tables, Power BI, and Tableau a plus.
