Position Summary 

The Communications Specialist/Writer reports to Accion’s Chief Communications Officer and is responsible for overseeing a content production timeline and delivering a range of fundraising collateral in support of Accion’s retail giving program. The Specialist is expected to deliver engaging, people-focused written content to motivate new and existing donors to support Accion’s work.

 

The Specialist will work across the Communications Team and network across the organization to identify programs and people that best reflect Accion’s work for retail donors. They will provide input into the look and feel of all retail giving products, working closely with other members of the team that have specialist design skills.

 

The Specialist will also provide expert writing and editing support for other areas of Accion’s positioning strategy, writing articles and texts for the website and other channels.

 

Preferred location: Washington, D.C., but open to remote across the U.S.

   

Position Responsibilities 

  • Oversee calendar for print and digital content related to Accion’s retail giving program.
  • Work with digital communications staff to ensure robust content pipeline in place that aligns with Accion’s core areas of work.
  • Work with content leads to determine people-focused stories that best connect with core audiences.
  • Write print and e-appeals, and quarterly donor newsletters for retail giving.
  • Write content for mid and high-level donors.
  • Write and edit longer form pieces that showcase Accion’s work. This may include blogs, articles, and explainer texts for SEO purposes.
  • Collaborate with other team members on look and feel of retail giving deliverables, bringing audience insights to influence creative.

  

Position Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience delivering compelling written material for a range of different audiences.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal English language skills and the ability to craft compelling, people-focused narratives.
  • Experience writing and editing digital and print marketing materials for a mission-driven nonprofit organization.
  • Experience and strong interest in international development or related field highly desirable.
  • Operates independently; able to manage multiple priorities; strong project management skills.
  • Experience writing and editing long form pieces; knowledge of SEO best practices as they inform written content.
  • Collaborative, energetic, and eager to work with an international team to promote Accion’s life-changing work.

Travel Requirements

Some domestic and international travel may be required with this position. Travel is expected to make up less than 10% of the work time. If the successful candidate is not based in the Washington D.C. area, they will be expected to spend a few days each quarter in the D.C. office.

 

Compensation and Benefit

  • Salary Range: $70K to $80K
  • The above salary range serves as a general guideline. Accion considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, training, skills, location, current market conditions as well as internal pay alignment.
  • Accion provides a total compensation package, including base salary, discretionary merit-based bonus, and a variety of benefits including health insurance (90% employer funded), life and disability insurance, retirement plans (up to 7.5% employer match), paid holidays and paid time-off for vacation plus personal days as well as sick days.
