Position Summary 

Reporting to the Finance Controller India, the Accounting Specialist executes routine accounting transactions in accordance with the established policies and procedures. The role is responsible for processing daily and monthly journal entries, accounts payable, employee expense claims and supporting month-end reconciliation activities for Accion India Hub.

   

Position Responsibilities

  • Local Purchase Order Processing (NetSuite): Initiate and manage local POs, monitor approval workflows, and secure final approvals prior to Accounts Payable (AP) processing.
  • Accounts Payable (AP) Processing: Responsible for India AP processing, this includes ensuring from accurate invoice entry to securing final approvals in NetSuite, ensure that payments are processed on a regular basis, always prioritizing the needs of the business, maintaining full adherence to corporate financial policies and deducting appropriate tax withholding.
  • Monthly Vendor AP Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations of all vendor invoices within NetSuite, including invoices received, submitted for approval, approved, and in Work-in-Progress (WIP) status. Ensure completeness and accuracy by identifying discrepancies, resolving errors, and confirming that all valid invoices are properly recorded in the accounting system.
  • Cash Receipt/Disbursement Support: Manage cash receipts and disbursements processes, including the preparation of bank forms, recording corresponding entries in the India books.
  • Banking/Payments processing Support: Processing all payments including salaries, TDS, GST, employee payments and submission of required KYC documents to banks when prompted/necessary.
  • Fixed Asset Management: Maintain and update the fixed-asset register and depreciation schedules; collaborate with IT on asset additions, disposals, and write-offs; and perform monthly fixed-asset reconciliations.
  • Tax Calculation Support: Assist in monthly TDS, GST and prepare reconciliations for tax-related GL accounts, and compile supporting documentation for the Finance Controller
  • Employee Expense Reimbursements: Manage expense reimbursements for India and ensure compliance with travel and expense policies, review supporting documents, and process fortnightly reimbursements promptly.
  • Monthly books closure support: Complete all the reconciliations of TB/GL as part of books closure processes and timelines decided by Finance Head. Follow up on Time Sheets (TS) submissions and approvals with Accion India employees to ensure all TS are completed before the timelines.
  • Audit Support: Provide the requisite information during the audits to auditors with all schedules and reconciliations with supporting documentation as necessary.
  • OFAC screening: Complete the OFAC screening of all vendors before processing any payments to comply with the regulatory compliance requirements of Accion International.
  • Other duties as assigned, include support for cross-functional initiatives and additional accounting responsibilities as the organization evolves.

  

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Commerce (B.Com – Accounting major preferred); M.Com or MBA (Finance) is an advantage.
  • Proficient in English (verbal and written)
  • Minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in a similar position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, taxes and organizational procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of accounting packages and software (NetSuite is a plus).
  • Excellent computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, time management and ability to adapt to changes.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Eager to learn and grow in various functions of an accounting department.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
