About the role:   This leader will ideally be based with the Accion team in Washington, DC.  However, consideration will be given to a New York City or East Coast Corridor location, with frequent travel to Washington DC.   The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will be responsible for leveraging global awareness of, and interest in, financial inclusion initiatives by building and stewarding robust, meaningful partnerships with current and prospective institutional and corporate funders, major individual donors, and others.    A bold-thinker and a strategic, yet hands-on, executor they will lead best-in-class and innovative fundraising programs and enhance/refine Accion’s overall approach to its fundraising and development efforts.   The CDO will actively manage a donor portfolio by personally participating in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, as well as collaborating with the President & CEO to ensure that he is effectively supported and leveraged to achieve fundraising goals. They will have the capacity to develop fluency in the issues and opportunities in financial inclusion, individual strategy sectors, and solutions to create tailored and compelling strategies for institutional, corporate, and individual donors across a range of geographies and demographics.   As a member of the organization’s Operating Committee (senior leadership team), the CDO will also be engaged in broader organizational strategies and initiatives, working collaboratively across the organization with a wide range of stakeholders and, in particular, with the communications team and global program staff.   About Accion:   Accion is a global nonprofit committed to creating a financially inclusive world, with a pioneering legacy in microfinance and fintech impact investing. About the Center for Financial Inclusion:   The Center for Financial Inclusion is an independent think tank housed at Accion that conducts research and advocates for evidence-based change to ensure that all people can make use of financial products and services to improve their lives and prosper. The Editorial Director plays a strong leadership role in CFI’s research and policy influence work by managing CFI’s editorial pipeline and leading stakeholder influence campaigns across different communications platforms and channels. For more than 50 years, Accion has helped tens of millions of people through its work with more than 110 partners in 50 countries.   The role:   Accion Venture Lab seeks an experienced, senior level investments professional, with a proven track record of making and exiting investments, to lead a dynamic, high-performing team as it continues to scale its work in partnership with global financial services companies, foundations and DFIs.   This leader will also work closely with the Venture Lab Investment Committee to effectively identify and manage investments and will interact regularly with Venture Lab’s Limited Partners on reporting and fund performance.     As a member of Accion’s Operating Committee (senior leadership team), s/he will also be engaged in broader organizational strategies and initiatives, working collaboratively with colleagues across the organization.   The ideal candidate will have experience investing in seed stage investments in emerging markets, building strong relationships with investors and management teams, developing pipeline ideas with a view on financial inclusion business models in key markets globally and is passionate about social impact – while maintaining disciplined focus on delivering commercial returns to investors.

About the Center for Financial Inclusion:   The Center for Financial Inclusion (CFI) is an independent think tank housed at Accion that works to better serve, protect and empower clients.   CFI has long been at the forefront of the consumer protection movement. In 2009, CFI founded the SMART Campaign—which has served as a platform for engaging with providers on improved consumer protection practices, resulted in the development of industry standards, and created an ecosystem of players that support providers to uphold these standards in practice.Over the past several years, CFI has shifted its research focus to better understand the risks faced by consumers and market players in a digitized world, updated the Client Protection Principles to reflect emerging risks and standards to ensure providers can effectively respond, and provided concrete guidance for regulators to better take into account new risks.   CFI is deepening its program on consumer protection in the digital world to focus on: - Addressing the most critical consumer risks (COVID-19 and beyond)—by conducting research and mapping on COVID-19 related risks- and developing the concept of protection by design. - Leveraging technology innovations to strengthen market monitoring—by developing SupTech innovations to improve market conduct supervision and consumer protection, strengthening market monitoring of risks to consumers linked to COVID-19, and strengthening strategic partnerships. - Exploring ways in which new providers, such as fintechs and platforms, can be influenced to prioritize responsible consumer protection practices.
